About
My Background
In May of 2020, I graduated from Randolph-Macon College with a degree in music education. That fall, I began teaching music virtually before eventually transitioning to in-person teaching. During my time in this role, I discovered my love for designing and developing learning materials to enhance my teaching. I have always enjoyed activities that involve creativity and technology, so combining those loves of mine was very exciting for me.
In early 2022, I learned about the field of instructional design and was instantly hooked. I recognized how the skills and knowledge I already had as an educator translated to instructional design, and I was eager to learn more. And after taking some time to building my skillset and knowledge in adult learning, I transitioned to my current role as a Learning Experience Designer at the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC).
My Work
As an instructional designer, I create learning experiences that are effective, equitable, and enjoyable for all learners.
Effective - My instructional design process is rooted in educational and instructional design theory and modality. With any project I take on, my first step is to determine the actions the learners need to be able to accomplish. Understanding what the results of a project need to be makes the design process far more focused and ultimately leads to a more effective learning experience.
Equitable - Along with determining the actions that learners need to be able to accomplish, I also prioritize getting to know the learners I will be creating content for. My experience teaching has taught me that every learner has unique needs and concerns that must be met for them to reach their full potential. If this essential step is skipped, learner engagement and the overall effectiveness of the learning experience will drop significantly.
Enjoyable - Like most working professionals, I have experienced my fair share of boring and lackluster trainings. I love finding creative ways to take the information that learners need to know and presenting it in a more fun and interactive format. When learning is enjoyable, learners will retain more of the information presented and be more excited to apply what they have learned.
My Passions
In my free time, I love to travel, try out new restaurants, and spend quality time with my family and friends. Some of my current hobbies include singing, songwriting, and playing video games.
